How To Get A Driver’s License In Ghana

To get your driver’s license in Ghana, you have to pass the theory and practical exams issued by DVLA. This practical exam is applicable to both new drivers and experienced driver’s who require a driving license.

All individuals who apply for the DVLA driving license for the first time are required by the DVLA regulations to first apply for the learners drivers license after which the actual drivers license would be issued to them.

Experienced drivers or those who previously owned drivers license issued by DVLA do not have to go through this same process.

 

How To Register On The DVLA Online Portal

1. To begin the DVLA registration process first visit https://online.dvla.gov.gh/sign_in.

2. Then click “Sign Up Free” which is at the buttom of the sign in page.

3. Next select “Individual” in the Popup menu.

4. The applicant registration form then opens up.

5. Fill In The Following Details Under The Basic Information Tab:

    1. Select Your Title (Mr. Or Mrs)

    2. Select Your Gender (Male or Female)

    3. Enter Your Date of Birth in the following order (Day, Month and Year)

    4. Select Where You Were Born (Place of Birth)

    5. Enter Your Surname, Your First Name and Middle Name (If Any).

    6. Enter your Employer’s Name (Example. Self Employed).

    7. Select Your Nationality

    8. Enter Your Previous Name (Any other name you had before a name change)

    9. Select the ID Card you want to use for Identity (Example Voters ID, National ID, Health Insurance, SSNIT or Passport)

    10. Enter the ID Card Number in the ID No. Field

    11. Click on “Next”

6. Enter The Following Information Under The Contact Information Tab:

    1. Your postal address (P.O.Box 5122)

    2. Enter the town of the postal address in the city field provided (Adum-Kumasi)

    3. Select your region from the drop down list

    4. Enter your email address in the email address field

    5. Enter the name of your area in the “suburb” field

    6. Enter your street address in the street address field

    7. Enter your House Number

    8. Enter your mobile phone number in the mobile number field

    9. Finally Click on “Next” to proceed to the next step

7. Enter The Following Information On The Account Credentials Tab:

    1. Enter a name you can easily remember in the username field

    2. Enter your prefered password in the password field

    3. Kindly Repeat the password in the “Confirm Password” field

    4. Click “Next” to continue

    5.  On the next page a preview of all the details you have entered in the previous three pages would appear

   6. Review all the details to be sure that everything is correct and click on the “Next” button

   7. Incase you have any you have wrongly entered any data, click on the edit button at the top of each tab to kindly edit before you make progress.

   8. At this post you have sucessfully registered for driver’s license on the DVLA Online Portal.

 

Requirement For Getting A New Driver’s License In Ghana

1. Your Physical presence at any DVLA Nationwide

2. You must be 18 years of age and above

3. You must have a Basic Education or Adult Education

4. Ability to read and write

5. Passport Pictures


Classes Of Driver’s License In Ghana

The following are the six (6) classes of driver’s license in Ghana

1. Class A

A class A driving license is for drivers who drive motorcycles

2. Class B

A class B driving license is for drivers who can drive minibuses, pick up vehicles that contain 1-15 passengers

3. Class C

A class C driving license is for drivers who can drive buses with moderate goods. The Vehicle must contain not between 1- 45 passengers.

4. Class D

A class D driving license is for drivers who can drive heavy duty vehicles and buses. The vehicle must contain 1 – 65 passengers

5. Class F

 A class F driving license is for drivers who can drive heavy carrying vehicles like articulators and many other heavy vehicles
